Sunwoda's 50MW/100MWh Centralized Energy Storage Project Successfully Connected to the Grid in Hubei

Jun 05,2025

We’re excited to announce that a 50MW/100MWh centralized (shared) energy storage power station project in Hubei Province has been successfully connected to the grid. This milestone project is fully equipped with Sunwoda's NoahX 5MWh Liquid-Cooling Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and represents a key step in optimizing Hubei’s energy structure and enhancing renewable energy integration capacity.

As a critical infrastructure project supporting the development of a new power system in Hubei, the successful grid connection highlights Sunwoda's continued leadership in large-scale shared energy storage solutions. It underscores our robust technical strength and reliable delivery capabilities in utility-scale applications.

The project is built on 20 units of Sunwoda’s NoahX 5MWh Liquid-Cooling BESS, designed for high performance and operational safety. These systems are integrated through a 35kV collection line into the photovoltaic (PV) station’s 35kV energy storage switchgear, connecting the entire system to the grid via the PV station.

NoahX 5MWh BESS: High-Performance from Cell to System

1. Self-Developed Battery Cells for Maximum Reliability

At the heart of each system is Sunwoda’s self-developed 314Ah high-energy-density storage cell, delivering long cycle life and full-lifecycle safety. This core technology ensures the systems meet the stringent requirements of both generation and grid-side applications.

2. Innovative String-Level Architecture

Each container houses 12 battery racks, each composed of 4 series-connected modules, with 104 cells in each module, enabling a single 5MWh capacity design. Combined with a 2.5MW PCS (Power Conversion System), this approach enables multi-layer safety protections—from cell level to system level—resulting in finer safety control and faster fault response.

3. Smart Liquid-Cooling Thermal Management

The advanced liquid-cooling system ensures temperature differences across the system remain within 5°C, significantly enhancing thermal uniformity and reducing heat generation. This boosts the cycle life by 10%, reduces auxiliary power consumption by 20%, and ensures the battery cells operate under optimal conditions—improving overall efficiency and extending system lifespan.

Collaborative Success Across All Stakeholders

This project’s timely and high-quality delivery was made possible through the joint efforts of the investment entity, the Sunwoda project team, design and construction partners, and strong support from local government departments. All parties demonstrated a high level of commitment to quality, safety, and execution—ensuring smooth commissioning and grid connection as scheduled.

Driving the Clean Energy Transition in Hubei

Now in operation, the storage plant will play a vital role in enhancing the region's peak shaving capacity, smoothing renewable generation fluctuations, and safeguarding grid stability. It will also support large-scale integration of solar and wind power in Hubei and surrounding areas—reducing curtailment and contributing to a more clean, low-carbon, safe, and efficient energy system.

This project is another solid step forward for Sunwoda in building the energy infrastructure of the future—and we remain committed to supporting the global transition toward green energy.
